RESONIC FAQs

What is Cellulite?

Cellulite is a common skin condition that affects more than 82 million women. It is characterized by an uneven dimpling in the skin, and often occurs in the thighs, buttocks, abdomen, and upper arms. The appearance of cellulite is caused in part by fibrous septa, which pull the skin in the regions that it dimples.

Harmon K. Is cellulite forever? Scientific American. May 4, 2009. Accessed February 3, 2021. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/is-cellulite-forever/

What are fibrous septa?

Septa are springy bands that connect your skin to the muscle layer underneath. These bands are often surrounded by fat cells, and over time can stiffen due to the effects of aging, weight gain, hormonal changes, or other factors.

What causes Cellulite?

As the septa stiffen, they pull against the surface of the skin, creating the puckering and dimpling we call cellulite. Cellulite can happen to any woman at any age, and often has more to do with genetics than weight.

How can I prevent Cellulite?

Because there is no consensus on the true cause of cellulite, it’s difficult to say what can actually prevent it. Some things doctors recommend are drinking more water and adding more muscle tone, but these mainly dilute the appearance of cellulite rather than prevent it. Increasing the elastin and collagen content of the skin can help make it thicker and more springy, and may reduce the visible effect of the cellulite itself.

How does RESONIC reduce the appearance of Cellulite?

RESONIC uses the high-frequency sound waves of its proprietary Rapid Acoustic Pulse technology to work with the natural properties of your skin. The device is placed on top of your skin and, while in operation, rapidly cycles sound waves through your skin to non-invasively cause 2 major effects. The Rapid Acoustic Pulse device physically changes the septa that tether the skin down, and also helps restore smoothness to the skin. This process helps free the dimples we call cellulite, allowing the skin to rebound and gain a smoother texture.

How quickly can RESONIC reduce the appearance of cellulite?

Rapid Acoustic Pulse technology can improve the appearance of cellulite after just a single sessionthat takes 45-60 minutes.

How long does a single RESONIC treatment take?

Typical treatment sessions take less than 1 hour. However, timing can vary with the number of areas to which the Rapid Acoustic Pulse device is applied. For a full discussion of the duration of a treatment session, it is best to consult with your physician.

What should I expect after a cellulite improvement treatment after RESONIC?

Skin in the treated area will feel warm to the touch and may tingle slightly. You may also have redness in the treated area for a few hours following treatment. Cellulite results will continue to improve over time, as your skin rebounds from the physical change of the septa.

Does RESONIC completely eliminate cellulite?

After a RESONIC treatment, your skin can become smoother and firmer, with significant improvement in cellulite affected areas.

Is RESONIC safe?

Rapid Acoustic Pulse is an FDA-cleared technology that does not cause lasting or unexpected side effects. RESONIC treatments to reduce the appearance of cellulite have minimal discomfort and do not require any anesthesia or downtime. Patients have reported that it feels relaxing, like a deep tissue massage.

What body parts does RESONIC work on?

Rapid Acoustic Pulse is currently FDA-cleared for use on the buttocks, outer thighs, inner thighs, and lower thighs. However, RESONIC is continuing to evaluate its safety and efficacy for cellulite reduction on other parts of the body, with the goal of expanding its use. Please stay up to date on our most current safety information, and consult with your physician to determine if RESONIC is right for you.

Kybella FAQs

What is Kybella?

Kybella is a treatment that is injected into the fat under the chin to destroy fat cells. Kybella is a permanent treatment because once the fat cells are destroyed, those cells can no longer store fat. Fat cleared from the treatment area is processed through the body’s natural metabolism.

What are the side effects?

Swelling, pain, numbness, redness and hardness in the treatment area can occur and is considered normal.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of injections and treatments depend on the amount of fat you have in the treatment area. Treatments are administered about 1 month apart and you should not receive more than 6 treatments.

QWO

QWO is the first and only approved injectable for the reduction of moderate to severe cellulite. Bellaire Dermatology is excited to offer this unique treatment to our Houston and Bellaire patients. Studies have shown visible results within 10 weeks. Most women receive 3 treatments every 21 days. As we age, our skin thins and fat cells enlarge and begin to push against the skin. Then, the fibrous bands under the skin thicken and cause tension resulting in dimples. After your QWO treatment there is no down-time and patients may experience some bruising that should resolve on it’s own.

QWO FAQs

What is QWO?

QWO is the first and only FDA approved injectable for the treatment of moderate to severe cellulite in the buttocks of adult women. Together, there are three things that can cause cellulite’s dimples: over time, skin thins, fat cells enlarge and push against the skin, and the fibrous bands under the skin’s surface thicken and cause tension.

How does it work?

QWO is made up of enzymes called collagenases. It is thought that the enzymes target the structural causes under the skin where cellulite starts. It’s thought that QWO works by releasing fibrous bands, redistributing fat cells, and stimulating the growth of new collagen.
