Dermal Fillers

What Are Fillers?

Juvederm and Restylane are two brands of hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers we offer at Bellaire Dermatology in Houston, Texas. Hyaluronic acid is found naturally throughout the body.

As we age, we lose volume in our skin. This loss of volume leads to either a sagging appearance of the face, fine lines, wrinkles, folds, and thin lips.

Injectable HA is used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, facial folds, and to create structure, framework, and add volume to the face and lips.

What are the side effects?

As with any injectable, there is a chance of swelling and bruising that can last up to two weeks and is considered normal.

How long does it take to see results and how long do they last?

Results are seen immediately after injecting HA fillers and depending on which filler and where it is injected, results last anywhere from 9 to 18 months.

Types of Fillers

Juvederm Ultra XC

Ultra temporarily adds more fullness and plumps lips. Ultra can also help correct and smooth moderate to severe parentheses lines, such as nasolabial folds (smile lines around the nose and mouth).

Juvederm Ultra Plus XC

Ultra Plus is a thicker version of Ultra and is used to correct more severe facial wrinkles, deep nasolabial folds (smile lines around the nose and mouth), and marionette lines (lines around the mouth to the jawline).

Juvederm Voluma

Juvederm Voluma is typically injected into the mid-face and provides volume, lift and contour to the cheek area.

Restylane Refyne

Restylane Defyne

Defyne helps smooth out deep laugh lines (nasolabial folds and marionette lines).

Sculptra is a not an HA filler, it is a collagen stimulator. It doesn’t produce immediate results. Instead, it stimulates your own body’s collagen production, so results appear gradually over a period of a few months. Patients typically need about three monthly treatments to achieve desired results. It can take 4-6 weeks to see the full results. Sculptra is considered semi-permanent, however, you may still need occasional touch-ups.

Radiesse is another type of filler, it is a collagen stimulator. It stimulates the body’s process of generating collagen and encourages growth, for a more refreshed appearance and is used in both the face and hands.

RHA 2, 3, & 4

Revance’s RHA 2, 3, & 4 are the newest dermal fillers that are used to treat moderate to severe fine lines and wrinkles. RHA’s unique manufacturing process of hyaluronic acid allows for it to resemble our body’s natural hyaluronic acid. This filler can last up to 15 months.

Bellafill is a semi-permanent filler is most often used to treat medium-to-deep wrinkles and folds. It can also be used to fill out pitted acne scars.
