Rosacea

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition affecting 14 million Americans-most often fair-skinned people who are middle-aged or post menopause. It can cause blood vessels beneath the skin to swell or oil gland to enlarge.

Signs can include pimples, blushing, redness and broken blood vessels. These may start around the nose and spread elsewhere on the face, and they occasionally appear on the neck and chest.

Rosacea also can effect the eyes by inflaming eyelids and leading to redness, tears, burning or a sense of something foreign being in the eye.

The cause of rosacea is unknown, but some types can be flared up by heat, sunlight, alcohol and spicy foods. Topical steroids can aggravate the condition, which can worsen if left untreated.

Bellaire Dermatology’s highly-trained and experienced specialists can help manage rosacea in a personalized regimen. That can include topical medications applied to the skin, medicine taken orally or laser therapy.
