Spider Veins or Venous Disorder?

Spider Veins or Venous Disorder?

Have your legs ever felt achy or tired at the end of the day?  Have you noticed bulging varicose veins in family members?  Do you have spider veins on your legs that you wonder what they’re from?  Are you having trouble sleeping at night due to restless legs or cramping in your legs?

If you said yes, you may be one of over 80 million people affected with a venous disorder.  Females out there with spider veins?  Those could be early signs of a venous condition called Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI).  This affects up to 55% of women!  Family genetics is the number 1 contributing factor in causing varicose and spider veins.  It can affect the young and old, those who stand or even those who sit for long hours.

CVI can easily be diagnosed in our office with an ultrasound and is treatable.  It can slowly progress and cause leg swelling, leg pain, skin changes or discoloration and even nonhealing wounds or sores.  CVI is treatable with in office procedures that require minimal downtime.  Our vein team at Bellaire Dermatology has been treating patients with CVI for over 25 years.  We take the patient from the beginning by treating the cause of the symptoms all the way to the end by treating spider veins cosmetically. We can recognize early signs of CVI on the surface of the skin and have a variety of in office procedures that can give you the most optimized results.

  • Ambulatory Phlebectomy for Varicose Veins – small sections removed under local numbing in the office
  • Cosmetic Sclerotherapy – injection of visible spider veins with sclerosant that seals the vein shut
  • VNUS Endovenous Radio Frequency Ablation Endovenous Thermal Ablation – Heat energy delivered inside the vein with a catheter under ultrasound guidance causing the vein to collapse and seal shut
  • Foam Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy – Sclerosant foam injected under ultrasound guidance to deeper varicose veins that causes the veins to collapse and seal shut
